| Since his high school days, Upper Darby '64, he has split his free time singing doo wop and cutting his friend’s hair. After his discharge from the Navy (ships barber) in 1967 he took a job cutting hair in West Chester.
His first salon, Headquarters, opened in 1973. It was a new concept at the time, labeled a “unisex” salon, and the idea caught on. By the early 90’s he had nine salons in Chester County.
Donald has trained under some of the “legends” in the industry and worked as both a distributor and educator for some of the salon industry’s leading brands.
In 1999 he received Pennsylvania’s Prestigious Paradigm Award for his business accomplishments. Also that year regional magazines, Philadelphia Magazine and Main Line Today Magazine awarded both of his businesses, Calista Grand Salon and Spa and Goose Creek Grill as “Best Of” in their respective category.
This was the first and only time that a businessman got “Best Of” from both magazines in not one but two different businesses. Quite an accomplishment!
Still an active force in his craft, he is a member and speaker at many events and shows. Calista Tools is his newest passion shared by he and his partner Maria McCool. The Calista Tools product line is offered exclusively on QVC. |
